São Paulo is one of those contrasting cities that makes you oscillate between fascination and discomfort. A noisy, architecturally rich megalopolis, excessive affluence rubbing shoulders with the most shocking poverty... Today, this city has given me a magnificent gift.

First I stroll through the Jardins neighborhoods... imagine Westmount with palm trees and parrots, you're there! The evening before, a few minutes away, I crossed a bridge inhabited by dozens of homeless drug addicts. I took a deep breath and moved forward with a falsely confident air... Contrast, you say?

The whirlwind preparations

For the COP 21 in Paris, I was swept up in a whirlwind. Won over by its energy, I experienced national pride!

COP 30 is starting in a different way, a few months before the event. It takes root in Montreal, with a dedicated team from Investissement Québec. Ten days before the COP, the inevitable meeting with security instructions. It soon feels like we're off to Sudan.

To go or not to go?

A few months ago, I wondered about going to COP30, which takes place in Brazil from November 10 to 21.

The obvious: my desire to support Eduardo Firak, Ph.D. in our ELLIO subsidiary in Brazil. Eduardo has been hard at work there for a year. What could be better than a visit to understand where he lives, to grasp regional issues, to immerse myself in the aspirations and innovations of southern countries, and to help him raise his profile?
